Rwanda's Model Villages
North- South conversations
The Rwanda Heart Centre
Funded by UCL and RIBA, this research offers a critical post-occupancy review of Rwanda's Integrated Development Model Village Program. It investigates the program's rapid expansion, analyzing the challenges and potential of this new housing typology in the context of local community infrastructure and sustainable building practices. By exploring co-creation as a design tool, the study seeks to inform the development of future village typologies. The IDP model village program provides a significant platform to enhance the architectural profession's influence and its crucial role in championing inclusive sustainability within the construction sector. This collaborative effort between the University of Rwanda's School of Architecture and UCL's Bartlett School of Architecture underscores the increasing importance of transnational architectural dialogue in tackling urgent global challenges. Our book will be published end of 2025.
